I finished this game last night. There are certainly better rhythm games out there, and the writing can be heavy-handed at points, but overall... it blew me away. The unrivalled presentation, obsessively minute details and sheer narrative ambition made the entire experience sing. I saw a game that can be anything it wants to be—it weaves deftly between laugh-out-loud funny and absolute existential terror, but throughout it all, Starstruck is itself, and that rocks. I refuse to fault a game for this.
Moreso than the clear inspirations it wears all over (Gitaroo, MOTHER, Um Jammer) Starstruck reminded me a lot more of the mysterious, cosmic feelings I had playing Neverhood, or if we're moving out of games, the debative nature of Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence, and maybe a bit of Under the Silver Lake in there too...
I loved it and truly recommend it!
