The people of Hyrule are being stolen away by strange rifts that have appeared, and with a certain swordsman among those missing, it’s up to Princess Zelda to save her kingdom. Team up with the mysterious fairy, Tri, and use the power of the Tri Rod to learn how to create echoes, imitations of things found in the environment. You can then recreate those echoes whenever you like to solve puzzles and defeat enemies. Create echoes like water blocks to reach new heights, make bridges out of old beds, throw rocks at foes, or find your own creative combination of echoes to do things your way. You can even create echoes of monsters to fight at your side in combat! Read less

Only about a hour and half in but so far it is a good time. It has this strange feeling to me of a hybrid of Captain Toad’s Treasure Tracker and Link’s Awakening. It feels more original when it focuses on puzzles over combat as I have played through a ton of Zelda and Zelda-like combat focused games in the past. When combat forced me to summon some enemies and throw rocks I actually felt I should be more creative and was hoping we’d get more strange summons that we could find new ways to dispatch baddies. I was actually a bit disappointed when they introduced Swordfighter form.

The music is phenomenal. I'm like an hour and a half in and I've already heard three all timer original Zelda tunes.

Played a bunch of this during my break today. The game is lovely so far. The echo mechanic is very fun, though scrolling through them has quickly become a little unmanageable. I'm assuming it'll get better once you find that handful that will live at the top of your Most Used menu forever. I really appreciate Hero Mode being available …

I'm assuming it'll get better once you find that handful that will live at the top of your Most Used menu forever. I really appreciate Hero Mode being available from the beginning, since I prefer playing without the heart drops. Also, the performance issues from Link's Awakening are back. Not happy about it, but I'm unsurprised.

Here's my Echoes of Wisdom bets you can take to the bank!*

  1. We'll see Ganondorf and get some lore. Whenever they include Gerudo, they know it is also their opportunity to add to the ganon canon.
  2. Link will still not talk besides the occasional hyah. Sure, he's silent because the player was meant to inhabit the character, but now Link …

Here's my Echoes of Wisdom bets you can take to the bank!*

  1. We'll see Ganondorf and get some lore. Whenever they include Gerudo, they know it is also their opportunity to add to the ganon canon.
  2. Link will still not talk besides the occasional hyah. Sure, he's silent because the player was meant to inhabit the character, but now Link is his own halfly-baked person. Nintendo likes that boy silent and I'm pretty sure Zelda likes her himbo mute.
  3. Tingle will be back. It's time! I feel it in my bones!!
  4. There will be an evil lady villain alongside Ganon. She might be the main villain, she might be secondary to Ganon, but she will be there because despites Nintendo's progress in casting a leading lady for their Zelda game, they don't think a male counterpoint to Zelda makes sense.

I feel good about these four. I know that's not an attractive number, but I don't have a fifth bet I think you can reliably take to the bank. They should go big into the goddess stuff. Will they? IDK they're geniuses they're idiots but if you want money you should call your bookie now.

This is not typical of me, but I've been trying to avoid all pre-release content for Echoes of Wisdom. Getting more and more interested in this game. Haven't finished any Zelda game yet so maybe I should first go and pick up Breath of the Wild again since I'm in a gaming-limbo-like state anyway. I can kinda feel the JRPG itch slowly starting to come back though.
