enter image description here I don't know whether or not I enjoyed my time with Vomitorium. I have thoughts that I could boil down to a pros & cons format.

Pros:

  • Vomitoreum has a grimy aesthetic with ugly designs that are revolting to look at in all of the right ways. Even with it's ugliness, the color palette feels varied that levels didn't feel the same.
  • The music consists of ambience outside of boss fights and feels distinct from each part of the world. I really like the snow part's track.
  • The movement feels mostly good. You have a double jump and a dash that feel alright, yet still feel fun to use. When you have an item to shrink yourself, I feel the movement with it is too slippery.
  • The game has some enemy prioritization, but it's boiled down to killing the big flamethrower man and he explodes nearby enemies.
  • The shotgun has some really smooth animations.

Cons:

  • This game was way too easy. Even with Vomitorium's art direction, the difficulty hurts the atmosphere as looking at enemies on paper, they look disturbing, but within the context of the game, they can easily be killed and aren't as scary.
  • The bosses suck. 95% …

Cons:

  • This game was way too easy. Even with Vomitorium's art direction, the difficulty hurts the atmosphere as looking at enemies on paper, they look disturbing, but within the context of the game, they can easily be killed and aren't as scary.
  • The bosses suck. 95% of the arenas consist of a flat circle and can be melted by the pistol or the machine gun. They boil down to circle strafing and mindlessly shooting. I managed to kill a few bosses without taking any damage. Yeah. That's how easy the game is.
  • Thematically, the interconnectivity doesn't really have much of a reason. It doesn't emphasize the importance of what is meant to be this safe hub area unlike Dark Souls' Firelink Shrine, which is a game that Vomitoreum takes inspiration from.
  • The smith's quest is worthless. At the start of the game, the smith gives you something to destroy these blocks. He gives you a task to get some ore. And what do you get out of this? The same thing, but faster. It can be used as a melee weapon, but since the guns have infinite ammo, why bother using this?
  • The flashlight. It's an AI and it's only important when you get to an area of the game that is pitch black. When running, you have to wait for the flashlight to catch up to you. This is by far the worst area in the game.
  • Performance for the final boss is horrible. I have an RTX 3070 and this fight ran like a slideshow.
  • An ending that gives tonal whiplash. Really? The world is reverted to happy world now? Barely a reaction from Eve, the person who caused the infection. Do we see her atone, feel remorse, apologize, get punished afterwards? What does anyone learn from this?
