I'm being overly harsh, but it's really difficult to play a classic JRPG without all the bells and whistles that modern titles provide. Going from Clair Obscur to this was a really stupid move. I can see where the charm is, some of the writing is quite funny, but the menu and battle system were a chore to slog through and the anime cutscenes and voice acting (which would have been incredible in 1992) haven't aged all that well. Happy to have beaten for my own edification but I didn't have very much fun playing it.
Great game if you are in the mood for an upbeat Playstation era RPG. Great sprite work, bright and colorful environments, and quirky characters. If you don't expect anything dark, deep, or incredibly unique this is a fun old school rpg.
Usually when a sequel adds a run button that wasn't there in the previous game, it's a quality of life feature that helps speed up the gameplay. They added a run button in Eternal Blue that somehow accomplishes the opposite and slows everything down. I liked SSS but the combat is not engaging enough to continue straight into Eternal Blue, maybe I'll come back and play through it some other time.
Started in on Silver Star Story and this game oozes that 90's shonen anime vibe in a very very good way. Idk what everyone is saying about the translation in this being bad because I really enjoy most of the dialogue and character interactions. Ignorance is bliss I guess!
Steam minimum spec for a 25 to 30 year old Sega Saturn & PS1 JRPG? An i7, GeForce GTX 1050 Ti and 8GB of RAM 😂
All jokes aside, it looks like a rather competent re-release, but a rather underwhelming remaster (esp. for the $50 USD price point, though they haven't posted pricing for Steam). 16:9 widescreen, better anti-aliasing, some kind of blurring effect, upscaled cutscenes, a new voice cast, modifications to the battle speed + inventory system and achievements.
