You can beat it in two hours and after that the only thing to do is shoot for high scores, but those were two of the most fun gaming hours I've had in a very long time. It scratched the brawler itch I've had since I played Bayonetta 1, and while it lacks the dizzying combo depth of that game it more than makes up for it by having some of the best game feel I've ever seen. The combat options are limited, but the small pool of options all flow seamlessly into each other. It's just a joy to dance around the stage, combo an enemy to death and then end it by using the aerial pushback of your gun to push yourself out of the way of a shot fired from across the screen while still maintaining your combo counter. There's enough enemy variety to keep it interesting all the way through, and say what you will about the length but it certainly doesn't overstay its welcome.

My complaints aside from the length are nitpicks. I'm fundamentally opposed to lives systems, but the game is just easy enough that I never actually ran out of lives, so whatever. I thoroughly enjoyed this game, and I hope for a sequel.

Picked up my first new game of the decade today. Really enjoyed Graceful Explosion Machine and I'm really looking forward to playing another vibrant little game in that vein.

Yes, I am down for another side-scrolling action game involving cats. Bring it on!
