I'm playing this right now on my Steam Deck while on vacation, and I realized that this is my first rougelike/lite (don't know the distinction) game, with the exception of Prey's Mooncrash DLC.

Because I have nothing to compare it to, what makes a good rougelike/rougelite game? Is it about striking a good balance of making the player feel like they're making forward progress (through upgrades that can be carried over), while still pushing them to improve their skills?
