If you are thinking to yourself "oh it's just another Zelda clone" or "Well the first one wasn't amazing so how better can this game get?" then you might be surprised by how good the game actually is.
It's a huge improvement from the the first Blossom Tales. You won't be disappointed at all in my opinion. There are very creative puzzles and very interesting items. I can't describe how much I enjoyed the game. It's not super amazing by any chance, but it gives you a very satisfying and you get more than your money's worth. Highly recommended.
Loved the first game and being about 75% (I guess) of the way through the sequel, I can safely say this series is a good time. I only have one gripe at this moment, regarding the sequel - there are way too many treasure chests full of.. coins. Nothing is more deflating than making your way through a puzzle or finally figuring out how to get to a cave in a strange location on the map, only to beat up a hundred bad guys and solve a bunch of puzzles to get 5 treasure chests all filled with coins.
I have over 4,000 coins right now and every time I run into a store or find a new vendor I can clean them out completely and it barely makes a dent in my stockpile! I am holding out on some very expensive items near the tail-end of the game so I can finally say that all this grass-cutting was worth it!
Still, it's a fun game and searching out all the collectibles is a ton of fun, and for that I award this game 5 chocolate covered Minotaurs.
Overall, I found this game to be a bit better than the first game. I really like the narrative of the grandpa telling his grandchildren stories. It's a good way to make a ton of adventures that have independent stories. As for the gameplay, this game takes even more things from more Zelda games: rolling, item crafting, bottle hunting, and sword skills. The trading and the side quests does a better job at encouraging players to explore and engage in things outside of combat. Both of these games scratch the itch for a 2D Zelda game. I do wish this game let you set manual map markers. There's a ton of things to keep track of in the overworld, but there's no way to track them all. Also, I wish there was more of a use for currency. Money becomes literally useless after awhile.
