I Love Stardew Valley, and the GBA entry of Harvest Moon, Friends of Mineral Town, so I was looking for a game to scratch that itch. The internet pointed me to this game. Supposedly, Story of Seasons is now the real Harvest Moon, and Harvest Moon isn't. Some kind of corporate reason, etc...
Anyway, after an interminable tutorial and saccharine story, I was finally playing, and I liked it, but it wasn't until the game really started unlocking (which takes hours) that I fell for the game hard. It has the same mechanics as Stardew and Harvest Moon, but they are generally more complex (crops have 4 different quality levels, and need separate fertilizers, things have different quality depending on how much experience you have with them (honey, fish, etc)) which can can be a turn off depending on how involved you want to be. The game has achievements that could only be done by playing the game for 15 in game years, which is totally crazy given that I was done with most other things by the end of year 2 and am not planning on going back.
suffice to say if you are looking for a great farm …

suffice to say if you are looking for a great farm game, Trio of Towns fits the bill, but be prepared to be patient and have about 50 wiki pages open on your browser at all times.
The main reason why I'm giving the game 4 stars instead of 5, is that the story aspects are incredibly tedious, and beyond obnoxious because you can't skip them and they sometimes take 5 minutes or longer. There is a auto text button, which you should press and then take maybe go for a stroll, drink a glass of water, do push-ups, or whatever floats your boat.
Stardew Valley was great, because the characters were generally fun and the story never overstayed its welcome. This has the incredibly obnoxious feel of a crappy kid show, which is strange because there is no way a young child can figure out the more complex aspect of the game. I Understand that a lot of people playing the game are young children, but it seemed to me that they could have found a way to make the story less tedious for the significant portion of grown-ups playing the game.
Also, hoard everything and get an herb finding pet immediately and get Rosemary, Thyme and Vanilla.
I'm starting up this game for the first time and I'm already mad that I can't download the DLC and marry Stephanie.
