Metaphobia is a short detective / cosmic horror point and click with a mature sombre art style. It details a man who investigates his father’s mysterious death and uncovers horrifying truths while solving puzzles around this city.
It feels very much like a classic Wadjet Eye published game. It has very mature refined pixel art - and the animations are incredible. Simple one-time movements like a woman being terrified of a mouse is animated so well (likely rotoscoped), so visually the game is a really polished experience.
The puzzles are generally good as well, besides a couple that felt a bit illogical (let’s build a bonfire and craft a light instead of just charging a phone’s battery?). But nothing had me stuck for too long and it all had a good flow.
For the whopping price of $0 this is totally worth checking out for fans of the more serious toned side of the genre. The ending is a little abrupt and lousy but otherwise it’s a fun little detective game with some really impressive art and animations and mostly fun puzzle solving.
