It was nice having an even bigger selection of Digimon, and the story was pretty interesting, but I enjoyed the first game a lot more overall.

There's not much difference with Cyber Sleuth, so if you liked the previous game, you'll also like this one, but I don't recommend playing it right after finishing Cyber Sleuth.

45 hour completion. Decent game and story, but not happy with the ending. You don't even get to tell Erika how you very clearly feel! At least Nokia was back here and there. There's also still some super awkward dialogue in places, but I'm not sure if that's because of the writing or the translation since it's mostly unvoiced sections.

+I like the main cast better than in Cyber Sleuth. They get more screen time and I find them less annoying.

+Side cases are slightly more convenient. You’re typically sent to the destinations automatically.

—Characters from Cyber Sleuth make cameos, but it feels more like fan service than anything. They typically aren’t well-integrated into the plot and sometimes act out of character.

—Spoilers The game touches upon the ethical dilemma of how Digimon are treated and misused in an early side story, but the resolution is really sloppy. I would’ve preferred it if they didn’t address the issue at all.

Cyber Sleuth is among my all-time favorites as it was the Digimon game that I'd been waiting for since playing Digimon World 3. So I really wanted to love Hacker's Memory but I couldn't. It's basically the same game, just retold from another perspective. I found myself skipping dialogs just to get to the good part: Digimon battles and managing your Digimon farms. And the good part too gets samey very soon as I'd done all of it in Cyber Sleuth. If you're longing for a Digimon game, play either this or the original Cyber Sleuth. Just don't play this if you've already finished the original.
