As part of the Humble Boomer Shooter Bundle, Dread Templar promised loads of old-school FPS gameplay and it did not disappoint.
Dread Templar is a lovingly crafted homage to Quake, borrowing a lot of its design to the point where it plays like a Quake expansion. That is never a bad thing as I loved Quake and its remaster.
The gameplay is fast and fluid, the maps are expansive and packed with secrets, the art style is gorgeous and draws a lot of inspiration from Quake's expansions, the guns are fun to play with and have a lot of variety, the enemies also have a lot of variety and are fun to fight and the soundtrack is killer.
My only real flaws are the overabundance of ammo right before a boss fight, the ineffective Black Bow, the repetitive soundtrack in Episode 1 and the easy final boss for Episode 3. Aside from that the game is a pitch-perfect boomer shooter.
The developer is still working on the game, and we currently have 3 out of the 4 planned episodes. I had a blast with the first 3 and I eagerly await the 4th. I'll update this review once I've played …

I give Dread Templar a 4/5. It promised fast-paced, run n' gun gameplay that evokes 90's FPS games and it absolutely delivered.
quite nice looking quakish aesthetic. This is not the usual cup of tea from 1C :o
