Picked this up on a whim and have spent a few hours with it so far. I'm very pleasantly surprised! I'm not sure if there's any one thing about it that really stands out as exceptional among its class, but I would say each element of the production, for what it is, is rock-solid across the board. Combat has Final Fantasy X-style on-the-spot character switching (making it an automatic 10/10), the characters, music, visual presentation and worldbuilding are respectively well-realised and colourful. I especially have been enjoying the writing, which is cheeky but hasn't fallen into the trap of becoming grating. Tows a good line of not taking itself too seriously, but being serious enough to take seriously enough... if that makes serious sense.

I've played through Ben's story and started chipping through Nikolai's now... I'm expecting the game to open up once I clear all four character stories, but I kind of hope it doesn't too much? I'm really enjoying the storybook-style linearity of the design in these first chapters: it's really comfy and immediately playable.

Picked this up for "Q" in the alphabet challenge. The prose and the battle system are maybe a little dry, but otherwise it seems like a solid JRPG! You defeat Napoleon in the first 5 minutes, and then a magical hippo joins your party.
