Holy fucking shit man.
Ok so where to begin, well for one it's already off to an incredibly great narrative start. It does the amnesia-inworld thing, placing you in a character who's lost their memory after an explosion, but it doesn't hold anything back before it gets into the rudimentary politics of AI and technology. Everywhere from Designer Children (i.e. genetically modified perfect physical kids) to anti-AI slurs are introduced, the whole world is incredibly well drenched in fitting political commentary and understanding of the setting it plays with.
But I really want to talk about this combat, it's fantastic. You basically have a whole move list that you can bind to 3 buttons each with 4 types of context, Melee, Ranged, Surge Dash, Dash. All of these moves can combo together, but doing so requires knowledge of their use and the enemy's state. They all generate heat so the longer your combo the greater your downtime, so you can balance out attacks based on your positioning. To add onto this though is the combo system in general. You've got air combos, supers, cancels, Guilty Gear gatling style priority, knockdown, okizeme, I'm not fucking kidding this gundam "VN" has it all. I'm only 5 hours in and it's already shaping up to be the one of the best games I finish next year by combat ALONE.
Still can't believe this game exists.
