The Big Meh

Playtime: 1 hour

Played: 2025

Intro

In TBC you walk around a small area, interact with people and objects and sometimes pick from different dialogue options.

TBC has few things going for it. There doesn't seem to be any moon logic puzzling and it has its own style. On the negative side, i didn't care for anything it has to offer. The US 90s style didn't seem that familiar. The story and characters didn't interest me at all. The gameplay might as well not be there. And the "Seinfeld" character? Ugh. No thanks.

Lighthearted Comedic Adventure

I thoroughly enjoyed the dialogue and vibe of this game from start to finish!

While it didn't really matter which dialogue option you chose throughout the game, each interaction was still unique and rewarding. Between the peculiar cast characters and the protagonist's sass, the game is upbeat and humorous.

While it didn't really matter which dialogue option you chose throughout the game, each interaction was still unique and rewarding. Between the peculiar cast characters and the protagonist's sass, the game is upbeat and humorous.

The control scheme is a little odd, but easy to get the hang of after awhile. My only real con is that the pickpocket "mini-game" does get a little repetitive after awhile, but halfway through my playthrough I found an option in the settings menu to auto pickpocket, which bypassed the tedious mini game. Otherwise the gameplay is pretty chill and enjoyable.

Not to mention that the game looks brilliant! It definitely leans into the 90s aesthetic, but they do it in a way that doesn't feel tacky. The funky backgrounds and music keep with the light hearted feel of the game and make it an overall very enjoyable experience.

I found this game at the perfect time for me, as I really needed a light, simple and fun adventure game which is exactly what this is. It’s wacky, a bit ridiculous in regard to plot, it didn’t take itself too seriously, and I think it all worked together perfectly. The controls are simple and easy to get a grasp on, making the gameplay loop feel comfortable and familiar. It was really great to just be able to play a game where you know exactly what you need to do and it becomes a weirdly relaxing experience to run around and steal from/con people to reach your goal. The inclusion of a task list makes it so you never feel lost on what to do next which is perfect for allowing you to have a more relaxed or casual approach to the game.

The art and color scheme scream 90s perfectly which was such a fun world to be transported to. The characters were interesting, not as well developed as they could be, but you understand their motivations. It is also pretty enjoyable to spend time running around talking to the NPCs in each location.

There is a good lesson learned by the main character at the conclusion of the game so that’s a little bonus to the plot as well. I think this game delivers exactly what it sets out to and it is a truly fun and straight forward adventure game that is easy to enjoy!

A few things I didn't love--some jokes made me roll my eyes, gameplay wasn't always super engaging--but this game just won me over. Great vibes, well-paced, a good length that doesn't outstay its welcome, and enough extra quests and details to add a few additional hours if you're into the game and want more of it.

A dissapoint

I give it 2 stars because they nail the setting. I tried so hard to like it but couldn't pass beyond the second stage.

It’s entertaining while it lasts, and developer Mighty Yell has absolutely nailed the 90's cartoon aesthetic. But The Big Con is devoid of much real substance. Had there been more narrative, better character development and more engaging missions, this could have been something special. As it is, it feels like an underdeveloped concept that falls short of its promises.
