You feel stuck when you should feel as free as a rolling marble

  • I thought I would like the game, moving a little marble around in puzzle-like areas, but : no. It's REALLY too rigid, and after a while I gave up on trying to get the best option out of the three, since it was really not fun. If I had tried to get better scores, it would have been because of …

  • I thought I would like the game, moving a little marble around in puzzle-like areas, but : no. It's REALLY too rigid, and after a while I gave up on trying to get the best option out of the three, since it was really not fun. If I had tried to get better scores, it would have been because of an obsession with getting better scores just for the sake of it, not because I would have enjoyed the game.
  • The story and dialogues surprised me with their overly long text saying nothing fun or interesting. I usually read everything in games, even little details that are boring, but here I started skipping dialogues after a while because of its huge lack of life or any good humour...
  • I still finished the game since I was curious, but it was not really a good experience on my end. Being able to use the playdate's crank is the only fun part.

Misses the mark

Casual Birder pulled off a charming and funny little story based on a goofy premise. I hoped for the same here, but unfortunately it falls flat.

It’s a visual novel (…ish. That moniker feels like a bit of a stretch, to be honest) where the dialogue options are selected via rolling a ball around a clunky pinball-ish minigame. I don’t need that part to be fun, but it doesn’t help that it isn’t.

The art is nice, but the story is flat and humourless. I did get a chuckle out of a character referring to a guy named Spiky Jon as “Spiked Jonathan”, but that’s about it. Weirdly, I’m not convinced the game was even trying to be funny, which raises more questions about the developers’ intent here.

Skip this one.

The visual novel aspects were quirky without being charming and I found the marble game (which is the real game) very frustrating and hard to control.
