Ahh, Tex Murphy: Pandora directive. The most acclaimed installment of the series, but which I in fact believe is representative of the Tex Murphy games' worst qualities. Pandora Directive keeps the worst flaws of the previous game, Under a Killing Moon:
* A horrible 3D control scheme. Instead of something resembling WASD, you must use a mouse to walk (controlling your speed is tricky) and a bunch of other buttons to look up/down etc.
* Uninspired gameplay which consists mostly of talking to everybody about everything, pixel hunting rooms for items, and solving logic puzzles and timed puzzles.
And there's several problems specific to this one:
* There is a multiple ending gimmick that gives you a different conclusion depending on your choices, but unless you want to replay the whole thing this means that you have to use a walkthrough to get the endings you want or watch them on YouTube after finishing the game.
* A cheesy and cliché plot combining government conspiracies and aliens. Try to reach the MacGuffin before the bad guys do.
* The air duct maze sequence. At about 2/3 through game, you have to send a little robot in said maze, …

* The air duct maze sequence. At about 2/3 through game, you have to send a little robot in said maze, which is filled with various hazards. The maze leads to several rooms, which you then have to pixel hunt for the necessary items to bring back. The controls here somehow manage to be even worse than usual. It took me at least an hour and was pure tedium. This is one of the worst sequences I've ever encountered in a video game.
* The game is really long, so if you didn't enjoy Under a Killing Moon prepare for an absolute slog.
Not recommended unless you're an adventure game completionist. The other games in the series are better but still not great.
2.5 / 5
It's the best one in the franchise I've played so far, but the controls are still some of the worst in any video game. Any situation requiring a time limit is the biggest pain as the controls just will not cooperate. However, I think the story, multiple endings, and hint system are much improved over the last entry, but I still can't call the game good.
