Final Fantasy XII is, unsurprisingly, the first Final Fantasy game I complete. While I have played and completed several other turn-based JRPGs, I find the characters and storylines of Square's mainline series kind of dull. XII is really no exception, and I credit the portability of the Switch and the ability to play this in short spurts with giving me the patience to complete this. It took me between 45 and 50 hours to complete the game, but over an 8 month period. Ultimately, it didn't really draw me in. As usual, Square's story here is really simple: rebellion vs. empire, but they somehow make it convoluted and hard to follow. The grinding can get tiresome but has been worse in FF. The combat system and the license board kept this a fresh experience. In terms of art design and graphics, it is quite obviously a PS2 upgrade - it has that washed out muddiness to it. This won't win over anyone not into Final Fantasy.

This game has been a great journey. For a game that “play itself” it’s really fun. The gambit system worked really well. The story is engaging, and this version has the 2x and 4x which is god sent for easy grinds. The graphics is not top tier due to the character models, but environments looks real clean.

FFX12 is one of those must play rpgs that strikes a great balance of story, gameplay, engagement, and difficulty. I recommend playing this game especially on the switch since rpgs tend to play better on there due to its portability.

I love this game so far. It was fantastic on my flights (logged about 15 hours, really made the time "fly" huehuehuehue). The combat is great and the gambit system is incredibly satisfying when you have everything automated. Not to mention, I've been using the fast-forward mode liberally. The worlds are gigantic and exploring quickly became a chore with the respawns. I used to feel bad using it but I realized that I would have gotten absolutely nowhere in 15 hours without it.

I can borrow money, but I can't borrow time!

That being said, the problem I typically run into with Final Fantasy games a few hours in is, I have no idea what the hell's going on in the story. This one is particularly challenging as the names of cities, regions, people, etc are very long and complicated, and paired with the speech patterns, cutscenes have been exercises in "who are these people, wtf is happening, what is this? Uh.. ok, where do I go next, I guess?" I'd like to get more invested into the story but boy this game got complicated quickly.

Any advice to reading into the story? I'd love a video or something that would quickly summarize the story.

Currently I wrapped up with Jahara and am heading east through the Golmore Jungle.

Question for everyone. Would you trade a PS4 copy of FFXII in for a Switch version, given the following?

The Switch and Xbox One versions of Final Fantasy XII also come with two key new features: License board resets, allowing you to swap your characters’ classes (in previous iterations of the game they were permanent), and Gambit sets, allowing you to set up three different scripts for each character, rotating between them whenever you want.

What all this means is that the Switch and Xbox One now have the superior versions of Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age. Again, though, that does suck for anyone who bought it on PS4 or PC in the past year or two. I asked a Square Enix representative yesterday if these new features are coming to PS4 and PC, but they didn’t respond. Given Square’s long and storied history of fucking up Final Fantasy ports, I’m not optimistic. (from Kotaku)

I'll add, I didn't play the game at original release, I haven't played the PS4 copy I own, and it is the steel book edition.

I did not use mist at all so when I realized I had to get the hang of it because of the one trophy I would miss out on, I was not happy because it is also a cse of being lucky and memory (I have the worst memory)I decided to give that one a try on my next playthrough.
