This would have been so much better without the base building and survival elements. Just not my cup of tea. I loved the idea, the world and some of the design elements but for me personally the game just didn't deliver as much as I love the premise and ideas. I think I played around 5-10 hours.

Long enough to dip my toes and just a taste for it.

What did I get sucked into? I am not a big Pokemon fan nor am I a big crafting/survival fan. And yet this game has me hooked. I find the casual grind fun enough and enjoy the ability to automate mundane tasks and resource gathering.

I am playing on normal difficulty and most of the game seems fairly easy going and forgiving (or maybe that is just my less aggressive style). However, I did have a pair of high-level monsters run into my camp and murder me and all my Pals so it doesn't want you to get too comfortable. But none of your Pals seem to permanently die and the invaders will eventually wander off to let you rebuild and heal.

With that mindset, I have to admit I'm having a little bit of fun. The survival mechanics are extremely basic and generic, but assigning monsters in your base to take on a lot of that manual "tree punching" work and watching it all run itself is satisfying. Unfortunately, there's constant reminders of the fact that this is Early Access. There's a lot of jank and things that feel unfinished once you get a little deeper into exploring the world. But there's potential to this formula, even if it's not fully realized yet.

A friend convinced me to try this. I forget if I saw this comment on Grouvee or in a Kotaku comment box, but it rings so true while playing it... "Palworld makes you feel like you're playing every Early Access game at once." This feels like just about the most generic survival, base building, resource gathering, multiplayer sandbox I've ever played, EXCEPT for the monster-catching mechanics which feel like they're right out of Pokemon Legends: Arceus. Once moment I'm having fun exploring and catching "Pals," but then I'm brought out of it by the hunger or cold mechanics. We'll see if it sticks, but my first impressions are a bit on the negative side.

Enjoying my time with this greatly. Its more complex than other monster catchers and includes life sim. I hope they keep working on it because I've lost my weekend to it l.

Absolute slop. Yes, the CEO has been leaning into generative AI for designs that are near plagiarism. Yes, I do believe that the success of Palworld does set an ominous precedent for AI in the future and I do hate that. I bought this game before learning of the use of AI because this game looked so batshit funny to play, that I didn't care for the quality beforehand. Just that I was gonna have a good time. By the time I learned of this, I could no longer refund the game. Part of me feels like Palworld was made out of spite for rather than something genuine. I totally get the hate and love, yet at the same time, Palworld is probably the guiltiest guilty pleasure I have ever played. I really like the gameplay loop of Pokémon Legends Arceus and I like it here as well, just with survival stuff that I easily got into after playing Lego Fortnite. It's the sloppiest slop I have ever enjoyed.

Anyone played this yet? Came out yesterday and looks interesting. Not sure if it's my style but definitely like the concept. Pokemon with guns? Open world? Crafting? Multiplayer elements? Hell yeah!
Just can't believe Pokemon themselves didn't come up with this concept.
