Every time my friend has mentioned this game over the past few months, I couldn't remember what it was because the title feels more like a subtitle, like Star Ocean: The Last Hope.
That being said, I grabbed the demo last night. The gameplay is really not my usual style; I don't tend to like dungeon crawlers (and even less so roguelikes/lites) because there's not much purpose in it to me. The loop of dungeon--upgrade gear--craft some shit--dungeon--repeat is just not it. But the characters were really cute and combat itself looked pretty fun, so I figured I'd try it out despite my usual preferences.
I honestly had a pretty good time with it, other than the Princess who talks CONSTANTLY while you're crafting, looking at your inventory, etc., in the base camp. ("Rah rah sis boom bah! Something something craft it all!" Yes, she actually says that first part.) There was a settings option to turn her off and I almost cried in relief.
You use one character at a time, no party. You can swap them out either at base camp, or at a big crystal tear thing in the different levels of the first "floor." Almost everyone …

You use one character at a time, no party. You can swap them out either at base camp, or at a big crystal tear thing in the different levels of the first "floor." Almost everyone was fun to use, but the caster ended up being insanely good. I had left him for last because, as much as I love a spell-user, using them in this kind of combat is always pretty daunting to me. There's like no targeting, though, so the poor archer just shoots every which way and doesn't stay locked onto an enemy. The same is kind of true for the caster's basic attack, but it didn't feel as clunky. The farmer is SO. CUTE.
I definitely won't be getting this day one, but it might be something that I pick up down the road.
