Gourdlets may have the lowest stakes of any game I've ever played. There are no enemies or objectives. The Gourdlets that occupy your town will be happy no matter what. There is no economy, only a few handfuls of unlockable items, which mostly seem to arrive at their own pace.
If you find the terraforming aspects of Animal Crossing or sim games fun but stressful, Gourdlets offers a momentary respite from the grind. Just don't expect a wealth of features or content: This is more of a creative island builder than a life sim.
A lovely game based on freedom and relax. Maybe it’s more a toy than a game but who cares. I played it a lot with my daughter, we had our respective towns but also a shared map on which we played together. We had lots of fun in toying, planning, creating. It became a fun thing to do in relaxing times during summer but also had some staying power once we got back home. A fun habit was her playing on my laptop in the kitchen while I was cooking but also discussing with her on what to do in the game. After a while we kinda stopped playing it but Steam says 12 hours which is not bad considering the price. Plus, I think we’re gonna play it again in the future. My only complaint is the lack of cloud support: it would have been nice to easily move our towns between the desktop and the laptop.
