Pokémon Go is an augmented reality mobile game that uses GPS to let players locate, capture, train, and battle Pokémon in real-world locations. Players explore their physical surroundings to find PokéStops for items, battle at Gyms for team control, participate in Raid Battles cooperatively, and compete in the Go Battle League's player-versus-player format. The game is free-to-play with in-app purchases and features Pokémon from across multiple generations of the franchise.

Got my shiny Meltan this morning! Need more of them for friends and to send to Let's Go. :)

Out of a sense of pure wild curiosity, are any Grouvee members actively playing Pokemon Go?

Catching a Mew was on my bucket list.

And it totally counts. The core games would just let you download him. I had to work for this Mew in PoGo. enter image description here

I've been playing Pokemon Go since launch and have been able to look past all of the poor additions and just enjoy the app for what it is, but the raid feature has crossed the line for me. Unlike other features, raids require you to be at a specific location at a specific time. This is already frustrating because I have to rely on Discord to find out raid info and there's hardly any warning, but it is made even worse by the fact that I haven't been able to participate in any of the raids I've gone to. Either I can't join because the group has already started, or the game kicks me out due to an unspecified error. I'm not going to waste both in-game and real money just to be given a giant middle finger. I can safely say I'll no longer be supporting this app.

I'm not sure how I feel about this explosion of wild starters in Pokemon Go lately. It's cool that I finally got a Charmander (and evolved him once already), but it feels anticlimatic when they are basically spamming them at us.

Time to call it. Although we stopped playing close to month ago, I thought the buddy system might revitalize things a bit. Sadly not, and unless some larger changes materilize soon, I am calling this one done.

Got three new Pokemon today and many oldies, hatched two eggs and finally I don't need to constantly worry about running out of pokeballs. Good day!

Reached 100 caught. Still a ways off from catching them all, and we still have a number of rarer Pokemon to find, but at least 100 is good enough to warrant the three star Kanto achievement. Even with the game's current limitations and problems, it is a lot of fun to get out there and catch Pokemon. I am also looking forward to future changes, as Niantic has stated that so far they have only deployed about 10% of their ideas for the game.

Not that anyone cares, but for my own sanity (and reference later):

I have removed my 2-star (and wordy) review of Pokemon Go. I have been in a moral quandry the last couple days, and I feel this is my solution. While I am generally fine to stick to my guns and say "I like what I like, and I don't like a lot of stuff many people do", after hearing more talk about this particular game, I have decided I am not happy enough with how I handled this. I haven't actually given this game enough time to really pass final judgement on it.

It's entirely possible that if I actually spent more time with it, I would end up with the same thoughts, but I have realized that I jumped to conclusions and was harsher on this game than I should have been, based on assumptions. I apparently wasn't the only one who felt the way I did since I actually had two "Helpful Review" clicks, but I know I have been unfair. There is more to Pokemon Go than I actually made myself experience, and there is a slightly differently not-so-gamey mindset that needs to be applied to it.

That said, I don't care enough about the game to give it an actual attempt, so I will likely just steer away from talking about the game like I know what I'm talking about and watch the craziness from afar, appreciating the phenomenon it has become.

Whew, I feel better now :)

I think this may be the first implementation of AR that sticks long term, given the game's rapid popularity, ease of use and fun. This may be the point to look at when analyzing a history of both video games and AR success.

Having started Pokemon Go, I'm not sure how to feel about it. It definitely seems to have the same lack of polish that the online version of the trading card game has. There's little to no tutorials and a lot of the time is spent just staring at your character on a low detail map with nothing happen. I do …
