Absolutely fantastic... I have just reached the credits, but there is still so much more left to do! The gameplay, mythology, artwork, music, characters, voice acting and story... It all is so good and works so well. I really like everything that Supergiant has made, and this is one of the best.

This game is fucking awesome. On every level.

I only have one real gripe, yes only one! I wish chests, info areas, fishing spots, etc popped out more. I feel like I am constantly missing this stuff throughout my runs.

OK, I'm gonna need some tips to defeat Theseus and the Minotaur. I've tried with every weapon and no luck yet.

Finally I managed to escape!

Hades final loadout

But now.. what now? The game and the story clearly wants me to continue forward but I'm the kind of person who would really like.. you know, an actual ending. Is there an ending to this?

I finally got to Teseus and the Minotaur at the end of Elysium (escape attempt #12). They wrecked me. I hope they don't turn to be a new Ornstein & Smough for me.

After losing about 4 times to what it seems to be the final boss, I'm starting to get a bit frustrated. Especially after once defeating him and him regenerating and starting again.

This is a fine game, indeed.

Picked Hades back up for the 1.0 release and started a new file. Most of my gameplay complaints from 8 months ago still hold -- over reliance on i-frames and enemies spamming the screen, lack of variety in enemy and level design, most of the weapons feel clunky. I do like the Twin Fists a lot, and they weren't in last time I played, though.

Anyway, the new story beats are great. I'm about 15 runs in now and on a 10 win streak, which I think has made the pacing a bit weird in terms of event triggers, but it's all good stuff. I'm really only planning on hanging around until I've seen most of the new story/character content and the new weapon aspects, which has made the design decisions I'm not a big fan of less frustrating.

Finished my first complete run at attempt #15, finally feeling comfortable with most of the game, its mechanics, weapons and how to properly use its build system. Glad I powered through because the first several hours had some low frustrating and uncertain points that were putting me off of the game. It requires some research online and grinding out some upgrades to feel approachable. I did a few more attempts afterwards in an attempt to try other weapons and see how the story progresses, but I’m losing each run near the end of the 2nd to last boss, which is probably the hardest part of the game. I still lack tons of unlockables and story, and it’s not clear if / when this story has a conclusion (it doesn’t come after clearing the final boss). Anyone know?

I wish I could take everything I love about this game and transpose it onto another genre that lets me actually get comfortable with a tough encounter instead of sending me back to square one to power through the basic guys in opening stages yet again. But that would be impossible with the way the narrative works in this game, making you progress just slightly further and then die to see more of it.

I guess I don’t enjoy the combat and meta build experimentation enough to fully embrace this game. Going to keep at it, though, since like I said, there’s enough interesting stuff in general—I’m just personally improving myself and my permanent upgrades at a slower pace than I’d ideally want to see new content. Every time a new mechanic / ability / upgrade comes up, I’m like, okay that’s nice but I would have liked to have this that time I almost beat the boss... It feels dumb to say but it’s like it doesn’t feel “fair” because I’m being set up to lose until I grind more attempts? Oh well, overall it’s still good, still fun and cool, I just question if I’ll run out of patience before it wraps up...

Ok. I can more or less consistently get to Elysium after about 30 tries. I feel I suck at this game. But no matter, because it's awesome.

Boy, is this game gorgeous. Sometimes I just need to stop and stare at the backgrounds, character drawings or even the attack animations.
