I don't think that anyone has ever made this observation before, but roguelikes can be hard. You might not meet Eurydice, the in-game character who sings "Good Riddance" for several hours. And those several hours may be grueling. So getting this reprieve is unexpected and welcome. The first time I reached Eurydice I stopped to listen until the song repeated. I then stopped to listen to the whole song approximately ten more times throughout the game.

"Sti-fled me" is the lyric you're like "wow this is a song, huh?"

So, i wanted to do something different this weekend, decided to pick up Hades again to give it another shot. And now, i actually liked it more! I don't know what triggered it but i kinda got into a 'gotta beat this' mode and got all the way up to heat 25 clears with 2 different weapons (the blade and the bow). In my earlier plays i found the game too repetitive, but this weekend something 'clicked' and i'm constantly into this 'one more run' mode, so bad that on saturday night i was playing it till 7am in the morning :O The game seems very rich even after beating 'the story', i might have to revise my original review and give it a higher score soon ;)

I started playing Hades about a week ago. Took me 40 runs to complete the main quest. Now for the character side quests and epilogue!

Finally. After 21 attempts (I know, not great) I finally cleared it… BUT. I have just been informed that in order to achieve the right ending I need to clear the game 10 times…

They are so lucky the art is amazing and that I’m a sucker for Greek mythology otherwise I would be deeply enraged right now.

After about 70 hours, I'm putting this down. I don't know what I'm missing to trigger the "epilogue" so I'll come back to finish that part another time. Just a phenomenal experience and a game that's definitely changed how I feel about rogue lites.

Finally, I beat [redacted] on my 49th run. Proceeded to then easily beat him in the next two runs right after. Still having so much fun with it and now that I am actually getting through runs, I can't wait to start messing with the heat system and different builds.

Jumped up in celebration thinking I'd beat it, then Hades' second form came out and wiped the floor with me. I'm at like 35 attempts now, still having an incredible time with it.

After spending more time with it in the year or so since my review, i'm amending my score to perfect. the abundance of end game, the charm of the characters, how very unapologetically gay and pro non monogamy it is, I can't say this is anything less than a perfect game

Playing the PS5 version, i have about 35 hours logged.

While I've had some fun with this game, and it certainly is not a bad game, i think this one is very overrated. In essence the game is a constant repetition of the same 3 'worlds' with an end part. There is some story writing in between and through unlockables, but it is generally pretty bland and often with a forced attempt at humor that most of the time didn't really click with me.

What i did like is the massive customization options and the big variety of weapons which can also be customized in many ways. But going through the same 3 worlds over and over and over doesn't really change for me by using a different weapon, ultimately it's still the same repeat. Also the game is very polished.

I think if there was more variety in environments, i might've enjoyed this game a lot more.
