The gameplay has nothing to do with Fallout or Wasteland. It's extremely slow, boring and difficult. The learning curve is very long and you have to waste dozens of hours before you can really start having fun but The game overwhelmed me from the very beginning with its pace. I never spend this much time on a game hoping that it will get interesting later on.
I've heard lots of games called the spiritual successor to the original Fallout games. This game, more than any other, truly is that. In fact, it almost feels like a remaster of Fallout 1/2 except that it has it's own unique and interesting story.
The one drawback to the game is that it the difficulty increases at an absurd level, especially to follow the main quest. Additionally, there is very little guidance from the game on where to go and what to do. The result is that, at least for me, I had to spend a lot of time wandering aimlessly and grinding to get gear and levels. Not as fun but the combat is pretty well designed (again, very similar to Fallout 1/2) so it wasn't painful. My experience was relatively bug free.
Charming homage to the classics with lots of personality but also riddled with many quirks that need some deserved polish.
Very slow start, no hand-holding, focus on exploration and text reading. Combat is secondary and unbalanced, especially in the first levels. Simply following the main quest will stop you in front of difficulty spikes, so take as many sidequests as possible and grind some fights. Make sure to use the quick-save and quick-load buttons often.
Apparently, the people who made ATOM RPG are about to release a traditional fantasy, party-based isometric RPG called Swordhaven next week. There was a lot about ATOM that annoyed me but I remember it fondly enough that I am a bit excited for this game. At least to wishlist and see how the launch goes.
discovered another russian Fallout game. Nice, I have to change my underpants now
