Reventure could be described as a "choose your own adventure" book in the shape of a 2D platformer.
It starts out from the classic monomyth premise: "You are a hero, the princess is in danger, go rescue her!" but it quickly gets more complicated than that - until it completely diverges into something completely non-standard.

Review
Reventure is a roguelike metroidvania-ish game in which you try to do something and inevitably die some stupid death. The writing is somewhat amusing and it's nice how non-linear it is, but starting over is way too slow. You can't skip cutscenes or speed up text, and have to get your sword back almost every time. Combined with the stupid deaths (even picking up an item can kill you) this gets old real quick.
