For whatever reason I decided to pick this up on a whim to play on my new Switch Lite as I've always preferred long RPG's on a handheld since I grew up playing Golden Sun and Final Fantasy ports on my Game Boy Advance. I'm 20 hours in now and absolutely hooked on this game! I love the characters and story because it reminds me of a combination of the old school RPG's I used to play with the animation and story telling of some of my favorite anime. This might be just me but the character and enemy design reminds me of Dragonball Z and the story telling in the way you show up to this city looking for something and of course it's the prize for a fighting tournament and of course there's something sinister influencing it and you're the only person who can stop it just screams every anime I used to watch on Adult Swim. I did have to update some of the options to make the game a bit harder as the base combat can become a little trivial without it. I'm constantly looking forward to the next opportunity I get to sit down with it for a few hours!

I don’t typically care about this, but the graphics hit in Switch feels like it might be enough to justify playing it on another platform. I know the advantage is you can take it with you, but the world is so lush and vibrant it’s kind of sad to see lose that in the Switch version. Everything looks much flatter on Switch which drains a lot of the life from what are otherwise very nice visuals. Question is, are additional features and portability enough to justify a muddier looking port?

These games were fine when there wasnt an opportunity cost of being able to play the much better games that are out there. I tried, I just couldn't do it, the mute protagonist and the general childishness of it all, probably done with this series forever. just not worth it for me, at least, for the time commitment

I really appreciate that this game doesn't give you random encounters like past iterations I've played of the series. It's so much more fun and satisfying to get to choose who/when you're fighting!

This scene looks like something straight out of Howl's Moving Castle. This game is so beautiful!

I'm very early in, but I can just tell it's a very well made, beautiful looking JRPG. I have no idea how grindy it's going to get, but so far, it's just a very good JRPG. I'll keep updating whether or not it stays enjoyable.

This gaame looks like it could be really fun, but I haven't played a Dragon Quest game since gameboy color, lol. Does anyone know if the combat here will be turn-based or hack-n-slash? Some of the pics show a character swinging a sword at a goblin, but I don't know if that's actual game footage or not. (SIGH).
