Apparently I’ve started playing this and am therefore giving it a second look.

Despite the jank and the mediocre story, this game has really grabbed me especially with its combat systems. Love the customization, and while I’m sad there aren’t real “party members”, the pawn system is an interesting take on building your team based on the situations you face.

I really need to give this game another try, can't remember why I stopped. People seem to love it and the new one comes out next year

I've heard mixed review on this one, with some people calling it one of the best RPG's they've played and others calling it complete garbage. Time to find out for myself

Then I realized there's no dodge roll. Combat is kinda meh. The first cave I explored is pitch black and I was killed by OP lizardmen. Set me back about an hour. It was at this point I went back to playing Smash Bros.

Update: I fought some trolly guys in Smash and I decided I wanted to give this game another go. And I realized a great many things. One: how to fast travel. Two is I like Assassin and bows. Three is daggers are also cool. Four is how to equip a LANTERN. Five is how to change my pawn's abilities. Six is that I can mix and match core abilities. Also dagger has a DODGE ROLL. Thinking of trying greatsword. Arc of Might reminds me of GS from Monster Hunter. Game On. Upgraded to 4 stars.

Oh, god, how dumb it is that the post-game quest that opens up the "true ending" is literally "get 20 of these items". I just cannot believe that literally the last quest of the game is a grindy fetch-quest on par with the starting quests of any MMO.

Getting to the end mission (although I read there's heaps of post-endgame stuff to do). I think I might've done one too many sidequests and leveled up too much. Either that or bolide is seriously overpowered. I killed the most recen boss in 30 seconds with just one spell.

This "quest" is so hilariously incompetent that illustrates perfectly how "narrative-challenged" is this game.

This "quest" is so hilariously incompetent that illustrates perfectly how "narrative-challenged" is this game.

The new bride of the duke asks you to meet her at night for some secret adultery. Of course, the duke catches you in her quarters and so she immediately accuses you of untoward behaviour and you're thrown in the dungeon to await "summary execution". Cut to next scene, she goes to your cell, asks for forgiveness and gives you the key. "Escape the dungeon" says the text on the quest menu. OK, then, open the door, walk right in front of guards and go out through the front door of the castle. Quest complete.

How can this be so badly handled? Your have met this woman only once and your character didn't spoke a word to her. Right in the middle of a war with a dragon you decide that is totally fine to tumble under the covers with the main noble of the area. The noble, then, seems to think nothing of sentencing to death the mystical chosen one who is the only one capable of defeating the Dragon. And on top of all that narrative debacle, you escape the dungeon and leave the castle as if nothing happened.

Wanted to finish a quest, but I was ambushed by a golem, which is immune tu magic and can only be damaged on specific weak-points that my pawns didn't target effectively. Being a Sorcerer myself, it was a long an boring fight. Literally a whole in-game day.

Honestly, it was such a baffling decision that completely broke the momentum of the main quest (and, to be fair, the quest itself had little of it since it asked me to fight a monster and then go all the way to the other side to the map to continue to fight). It is a bit of broken design to have enemies that are almost impossible to beat with one class.

I'm still liking the world and the mechanics of the game immensely. However, I realise that there is no opportunity for role-play. My character doesn't speak, she and barely interacts with the world in any way that does not involve blowing thing up with a fire bolt. So far I haven't meet a single memorable character.

Still at it. I'm enjoying it quite a bit. I really like how it uses de physicality of the terrain and even the bigger monsters.

The second chance is paying off and I'm starting to like the game a bit more. Its severe limited version of fast travel, immersive though it might be, does put a lot of friction. As well ass inventory handling. The fact that each pawn and character has their own inventory and they cannot equip items between inventories is really a hassle. The crafting system also gets in the way. Too many ingredients, tools and curatives too keep track of.

But, on the flip-side, I'm digging the combat and the pawn system (it was wild when a support pawn that had already done a quest guided me to a lever that opened a door). The character creation tool, while a bit limited in that it uses presets instead of sliders, shines in the way that allows you to customise the body of your pawn and character. The diversity of height, weights and builds is refreshing.

Still on the prowl for an open world RPG with character customisation I decided to give Dragon's Dogma another go. I'd previously bounced from it after finding it too hard, but I think now I'm more in the mood (and setting it on Easy Mode) it's more likely to stick.

Look out for my pawn out there!

I've farmed the DLC boss as much as I could stomach, and then burned out. I could stand to finish my Bitterblack 3 armor sets, and maybe use a mod to reset my stats. As it turns out, warrior light air attacks can carry against most enemies, but not all.
