The Tunic Physical edition is up for preorder. It’s exactly as I predicted, a copy of the game with a full paper version of the booklet:

Bonus that I didn’t expect, there’s a separate hardcover edition of the manual that can be preordered as well:

Needless to say, I placed my order.

The music is fantastic. I'd heard from several people that the combat is awful in this game and a big downside. Maybe it's due to low expectations but I think it's fine, I don't dislike it though the enemy telegraphs are kinda hard to see and I wish enemies were more susceptible to flinching from hits. It's the movement that …

It's the movement that I don't like much, it feels slow and kind of sticky. Overall though it's interesting so far.

BMOCatBug’s Year on Xbox (2022 Xbox highlights). 403 achievements earned, 8,495 total gamer score, 27 games played and 21 Game Pass games played. “Top Game of 2022” is Immortals Fenyx Rising with 63 hours played and 75% completion

It’s interesting how “top game” is determined. Essentially because Immortals Fenyx Rising overstays its welcome resulting in it being the game I played longest, it’s my “top game of 2022.” This also seem potentially inaccurate given I played Far Cry 5 once on my own and then another time with my brother in co-op. I prefer the way Nintendo handles …

I prefer the way Nintendo handles this and lets you designate your favourite game out of all those you played the most during the year. Tunic is unequivocally my personal “top game of 2023” regardless of total time played.

Tunic is kicking my ass. I love it. Just beat the librarian, so I think I’ve gotten pretty far. I love figuring it out as I go - It’s intuitive enough to not be frustrating, but difficult enough to make you feel clever for figuring it out. I think the level design is brilliant.

My Apple Music Replay is in, corroborating why I nominated Tunic in the best soundtrack category of the Steam Awards.

Nominated some games for The Steam Awards. Being fully honest, I tried to nominate Tunic for multiple awards, but it wouldn't let me. The reason I ultimately nominated it for soundtrack over best game of the year is because I've been listening to the soundtrack on repeat for the entire year, so I had to reflect that in my nominations. It does deserve best game of the year as well, without question.

Assuming I can solve your puzzles without explicit instructions is ableist. I literally, physically can not do so. My brain doesn't work that way. An option for the game to explain itself should be under the accessibility menu, and the only reason I can muster for its exclusion is the simply fact that - given the choice - most people …

An option for the game to explain itself should be under the accessibility menu, and the only reason I can muster for its exclusion is the simply fact that - given the choice - most people would prefer to have modern UX. Forcing me to constantly alt-tab out of the game in order to progress is the opposite of immersive.

I am absolutely loving this game so far! The slow build of the mystery and the intriguing environments make me want to keep playing hour after hour

On a more positive note, my Tunic shirt (or should I say, tunic) arrived today:

Reminds me of an old school Zelda game, like the first one on the NES. Challenging, no hand holding, trust the player to make the right decisions. Zelda outside of Breath of the Wild as of late has a tendency to talk down to the player, and it makes the games more of a bear to get through. I liked how this one has none of that. Yes, it's tough, but not impossible. Great pick up on Game Pass, I know it's also on Switch, but I find myself going more and more to my Xbox for new games (outside of first party exclusives and retro collections, which I still get for the Switch).

Excited that the Switch version was announced because that likely means the physical pre-order announcement is probably not far away now.

I was never a big Legend of Zelda fan growing up, but I've developed a fondness for games that copy a lot of its design elements (Hyper Light Drifter was one of my favorite games from the 2010's). I was a little skeptical when Tunic came around explicitly copying most of LoZ's style, but I booted it up tonight and spent close to ninety minutes getting lost in its world and its mysteries. I can definitely see the Darks Souls influence (another genre of games I never had a fondness for) on the combat and stamina, but somehow this game manages to blend the two styles together in a way that's wholly unique and immensely entertaining. I hope there are more unique combinations like this in the future, I always like being proven wrong about my tastes.
