The campaign is a mashup of Dawn of War I and II, which might sound appealing to fans of the formers strategy roots and the latter’s action RPG elements. Unfortunately it’s a watered down version of both games, rather than a best of both worlds.
I can’t really recommend the game full price (for just the campaign), especially after Relic announced they’d be dropping support for the title. At a huge discount I’d say it’s worth buying, but only for completionists and fans of the previous titles.
Despite being a lesser version of both it still retains some of the elements that made those games fun. Ultimately though, this is a disappointing end to a franchise I thoroughly enjoyed; in both its guises.
Played it just for the campaign. Its a fun game, still holds up even though its a few years old. Diverse and original missions. I just had a hard time getting into the story because each mission keeps swapping between the opposing factions. This way it is hard to get into the mindset of one of the factions.
$14 on Steam. I'm picking it up. It has really bad Steam reviews, but I think they might be unfair. The Dawn Of War series has strayed more from its RTS roots, and now is apparently barely an RTS at all. Honestly, I don't mind that. I loved Dawn of War 1 and 2. I played so much of it. Every expansion from 2 in full. I think this will be fine for me, especally since I don't play multiplayer. I just want a good campaign.
