Build freeform constructions as a medieval Builder, fight in sword duels as a Knight or snipe with your bow as an Archer. Did this get better? What did KAG get right?

I played this a while back, I got it along with 'Motor Rock' (not sure what its called now) at the same time and figured i hit the big score. I found it lacking depth and was really rough. I came in expecting a clone of King Arthur's World for SNES due to the title and a lot of aesthetic similiarities in both appearance, premise and it would appear the way it is played. Not that KAW is a perfect game with no flaws...But it's really cool and does so many things that are so interesting. Anyone who played that would of course be interested in this becuase it does everything in such a way that will immediately make you recall that game. In some ways it is similiar or at the least highly inspired by it. But I couldnt like this game. In the beginning it was okay. The early levels really do resmeble the beginning of KAW. You have siege weapons, flaming pots of oil, battering rams, catapults you have all that good stuff, and for the most part you can play it like KAW. There were some things that were so grating though.

Not that KAW is a perfect game with no flaws...But it's really cool and does so many things that are so interesting.

Gameplay is not so much like KAW. It's more like Elastomania for lack of better comparison. KAW is a slow paced time management and strategy game that is >65% of a lemmings like formula with some added twists and light RPG elements and a kind of player interaction that makes it feel almost like a 2D god game. KAG I remember only the chaos. Everything is fast paced. Things will just happen. the camera whipping and zooming to scroll. IT was so unnerving and almost enough to cause motion sickness. I remember the controls would at times get suddenly weird and the player loses a sense of control. I remember accidents, chain reactions could happen, and often they would be bug induced/engine weridness. There's also tons of complex and randomization that can occur through building and whatnot rather than a clear or narrowed down eleements of strategy and time management. KAG is definitely an action game. Maybe I just frustrate easier now, but I couldn't stand it, and it only felt like a cheap imitation. Obviously it just was not what I expected.

Some good bits are the game looks visually great. When things explode blow up or explode they really do. Those are often of course funny and amusing moments. It feels gritty and violent and if you like retro look and lots of violence this might be enough to win it for you.

Its possible the game was largely improved since then and a lot more content was added. But for the most part, i remember nothing other than some of the initial things mentioned and a feeling of motion sickness that i can't articulate from rapid scrolling. I do not remember beautiful background art or a sense of grand strategy in laying siege to a castle. Was there even a boss monster in this? I dont even remmeber an underground level. Or in fact, any levels that had a theme. No new encounters, no cheesy level transitional dialogue, no epic music, or any kind of background art which was comparable. No M.C. Escher Box art or main menu, and no Ride of the Valkyrie in 16 bit glory. In short KAW did a decent enough job to build up this bravado of an epic feel and even reward the players eyes and ears in unusual ways act by act and level by level as you take your army deeper into the underworld and elsewhere, in an almost Banner Saga-esque manner even despite so many technical limitations and this didnt do anything at all of that nature. Therefore as you play it it feels somewhat like a shell and flat. My take is at some point KAW couldnt be done so it was just turned into a chaotic action game of sorts.

This is a good example of an okay game that lacks the really strong elements that made it's predecessor so great, Yet, advertises it's likeness. Or am I foolish for thinking it's imitation of KAW at all? Maybe others with different expectations (and a beginner's mind) might have a different experience, or perhaps the game has been updated and a lot of these things were addressed and more content was put in that does the game idea concept, and it's possible the multiplayer isnt bad and justifies the game. But i dont like games that go down this road and I can only describe them as Bad Games. And Even without the expectations or knowledge of KAW, i have no clue how this can be so well received on steam. What did this game do right? Is it Co-Op? has it been updated? I wrote the review for answer and am curious if it's worth another go. Someone is playing this. Fess up and defend ye hold or I lay siege to your lands in the claim that they are but mirey bogsnot!

With some time and attention i could see this being a decent multi game but if you came in for solo KAG style tale building this isnt it. Pixel Piracy on the other hand was much better in this regard.
