Divekick is the world’s first two-button fighting game. It distills the essence of the fighting game genre into just two buttons with no d-pad directional movement. It is a comedic parody of fighting game motifs and contains many humorous references to games (especially those in the Street Fighter franchise) as well as inside jokes from within the competitive fighting game community. Unlike most fighting games which are played using many buttons for many different kinds of movement and attacks, Divekick is played using only two buttons, Dive and Kick.

Just a terrible fighting game

This may actually be the worst fighting game i've ever had the misfortune of spending 5 minutes on (apparently it took 10 hours for the cards to drop). It doesn't exactly help that you're constantly reminded of One Finger Death Punch (two buttons, same narrator), one of my top 50 games. A fighting game with no movement, no blocking, only a single attack and a mere two special attacks... And when two people kick each other the winner is picked more or less randomly. Ugh.

SuperFieroStatus's review of Divekick

It's hard to explain, but I thought Divekick would be more...fun. It's too "real." It's an actual fighting game and, for better or worse (worse in my case) seemingly just as competitive. It always looked so goofy and fun, but with all the special moves and different characters and kicks, it sort of defeated the purpose for me. I remember Divekick way back when it was just a joke video with two characters on screen dive-kicking at the same angle and all. Looked like dumb fun. This is too real to be dumb fun. The game is funny, yes. At times. The game is comprised 90% of inside jokes, most of which you, the player, won't get. It feels like you were just left out of it and it left a bad taste in my mouth.
