I am Bread is an action-adventure simulation game. It puts the player in control of a slice of bread and the aim of each level is to turn the bread into toast. If the bread, before becoming toast, touches objects the "edible" meter will go down. Objects and substances that can make this go down can be water and the floor. To control the bread the player must use the arrow keys or an analog stick. The levels are based on the seven days of the week.

6/10 - Decent

PLATFORMER - Traverse through multiple stages to toast the bread while maintaining its edibility.

PROS:

++ Unique premise. You get to play as bread. Where else can you do that?

++ Engaging gameplay. The platforming is meant to be difficult and it is incredibly frustrating in the beginning. But the more you play, the more you master the unique movement and the faster you are able to traverse the stage. Limited grip alongside the danger of lowering your edibility made for tense and surprisingly exhilarating platforming. Also, the game gives "Marmalade Jam" to those who may be struggling with a level and makes the player invincible and have unlimited grip. This is a great help for those who find the game's mechanics to be too difficult and gives them opportunity to practice a stage without fear of dying.

++ Content. I'm pleasantly surprised by how much content is given in this game. Besides the Story Mode, there are four other modes to try (Bagel Race, Cheese Hunt, Rampage, & Zero-G). They're equally challenging and vary greatly in quality, but nevertheless, I'm impressed with what's on offer.

CONS:

-- Frustrating camera. The game is already hard as it is when it's …

CONS:

-- Frustrating camera. The game is already hard as it is when it's working properly, but becomes rage-inducing when the camera refuses to cooperate with the player. Especially when it leads to having to retry the entire level.

-- Technical issues. For a game so simple, there were so many noticeable issues. Loading screens are long and sometimes freezes. And I had an unusual glitch that never went away where there was absolutely no audio when playing the game. Even after restarting, the audio issue persisted. Had to finish the game silently.

I have a personal rule to see a game through until the credits...but this game is reaaaally testing me. Can't believe I'm being humbled by a slice of bread.
