Gunbrella is a noir-punk action-adventure set in a world dependent on a rapidly diminishing natural resource. Players take the role of a gruff woodsman on a quest for revenge, armed with the mysterious Gunbrella: a firearm that doubles as an umbrella. His investigation becomes entangled with the inner workings of ghouls and gangsters, cops and cultists, and the fallout of corporate exploitation.

doinksoft is really good at the intangibles of gamefeel - sound design, animation, momentum - except for the part where the game feels good. it doesn't feel bad, but imprecise. except for the bosses; as with gato roboto, fighting bosses feels bad. game is trying to be iconoclasts and it's not iconoclasts.

Reading through folks' responses to Gunbrella (the game where a raspy voiced gravedigger says gunbrella), and I am seemingly enjoying this far more than others. I just got to the three year time jump, and this game is surprising me! I thought I had hit the end of Act 2 of a conventional revenge story, but no. Curveball! The characters are goofy in a wonderful way. Sure, it is easier to write silly characters than it is to write fully fleshed out characters, but these are good silly characters. When Max says the thing about rumors are they're always true, I was cracking up.

IDK this is reaching like cult classic status for me.

Bravo. What it lacks in ambition it makes up for in competence. A solid 5 hour popcorn experience. No complaints.

Under my Gunbrella, ella, ella, eh, eh, eh ♫

I liked this game, but didn't loved it as much as I thought.

The movement options are great. You can throw yourself in the air using the gunbrella, float and stun enemies. It's not very precise but it's fun... when the level design allows it. I don't think there's a good distribution of levels that want you to have fun …

The movement options are great. You can throw yourself in the air using the gunbrella, float and stun enemies. It's not very precise but it's fun... when the level design allows it. I don't think there's a good distribution of levels that want you to have fun and others that want you to be skillfull. But most of other reviews I checked didn't mentioned any of this. You know... subjectivity and all.

Graphics are nice, but a little monotone and repetitive. The plot has big aspirations and touches a lot of themes, but ended being a little dissapointing.

In general, Gunbrella is a fun, good game. Just not that fun and not that good. You can read my full review in spanish here.

My score was significantly lower than the average. But this is an indie game so I shouldn't get any death threats. Right?

Here's also an achievements guide I wrote in case you need it.

This one's more of an action game and less of a platformer than I realized. Your titular Gunbrella is the main gimmick and allows you to shoot or dash in any direction. Dashing into enemies to stun them and then following up with a shotgun blast is your main attack route, but the inability to cancel your dash recovery frames …

This one's more of an action game and less of a platformer than I realized. Your titular Gunbrella is the main gimmick and allows you to shoot or dash in any direction. Dashing into enemies to stun them and then following up with a shotgun blast is your main attack route, but the inability to cancel your dash recovery frames with an attack makes this combo feel way more sluggish than it ought to.

The loot on offer is mostly just specialty ammo, which might as well not exist because you'll want to save it for trivializing boss fights. Multiple busywork puzzles cropped up even within this brief demo. And unless you have a controller with paddles, the game pretty much requires the dreaded, maximally uncozy two-finger shoulder button grip to be played properly.

Disappointing!

Not loving this as much as I thought I would. I think part of it has to do with the controls. I've tried tweaking the inputs on Steam Deck but nothing feels like it's clicking.
