Amazed, dazed and confused. The triad of my first playthrough.

Wasted potential

This is probably the worst game I've played in 2022, so far.

After loving Neon White, I decided to try similar games and Mirror's Edge was one of the most recommended.

The problem is... I guess people were just completely wrong. It's weird to see how much praise goes to a game that is so ultimately flawed.

This is probably the worst game I've played in 2022, so far.

After loving Neon White, I decided to try similar games and Mirror's Edge was one of the most recommended.

The problem is... I guess people were just completely wrong. It's weird to see how much praise goes to a game that is so ultimately flawed.

Nothing works in Mirror's Edge. Platforming is imprecise as hell, controls are weird (come on, you jump with LB!) and sometimes unresponsive, the soundtrack is VERY generic, combat/shooting is ridiculous, Faith's health is a joke, slowmo is useless, level design feels aimless and empty, it gets old pretty quick and checkpoint placement is atrocious.

Not to mention the story, which is absolutely predictable and bland. There's no conclusion to it, dialogues are not well written, characters are very forgettable and the presentation is ugly as fuck. It's a disaster. I mean, what ending was that? Is it a cliffhanger? Is it the end of things? Just like that?

Two things I can admit to like about this game are the way it looks and how intense it feels sometimes. It gives you a nice rush and it'd be even better if the levels actually gave you room for improvisation, or if its visual cues actually worked. I like its style, I like the parkour core, but it's just boils down to a massive failure, in the end.

Mirror's Edge is my biggest disappointment of the year, so far. I've read so many amazing things about it, but I couldn't relate to any of them. The game is a mess!

A proof of how some good ideas can be very poorly executed. Also a proof of how overrated (and dated) some things can be, just because they look cool.

Very Pretty game that is Fun but has flaws.

Mirror's Edge is a relatively short and intriguing game. It's a game that while I did enjoy playing, I couldn't really bring myself to love despite feeling as if I should for some of it's perk. The combat and shooting bits separate the other 'half' of the game and are actually fairly decent and fluid. Another issue is that the shooting and exploration elements are somewhat juxtaposed and the game doesn't really seem to mesh as it switches from one bit to the next. But really The real trouble in the game though is it's controls. Both that of the combat and puzzles segments. This game has a very strange kind of control that never lets you really feel as if you have decent precision with what you are doing. It's easy to run too far over a ledge or over compensate when trying to aim at an enemy. due to the First Person camera, it's easy to backpedal slightly and slip off things or lose your bearings as to where you are standing. It's not bad it's just not perfect. Progress is relatively easy to make do to frequent checkpoints requiring little to no backtracking, but the game has many parts that you will play over and over again due to falling to your death until you finally get lucky or figure it out.

While the execution of the controls and gameplay design doesn't translate all that well, the visuals, setting and ambiance of this are top notch. you're flipping around through a strangely bright (and beautifully colored) but very dystopian (Supposedly Japanese) city like a batman/spiderman or Ezio/Corzo. The game truly has a wonderful look and soundtrack that are well worth experiencing. I sure as heck don't know about the plot though. The backstory is decent however. All the characters look really cool and the cel-shaded cutscenes are a nice touch. The game still manages to look fairly good despite it's age as well.

A flawed masterpiece..

Running in this game is supposed to be a liberating experience but because of the game's lack of guidelines/objective, you have to die many times to find a way to progress, and ultimately the game becomes a frustrating chore. Story is interesting, but sadly it is far too short and the ending is too abrupt. The game can be finished within a few hours and has no replayability. From what I know, this game was rushed out, which is why it is so short and contains so many bugs. Very unfortunate as this game had a huge potential to be a classic.

When I first got it I found the game incredibly difficult, but it was so fun, challenging, and beautiful that I persisted, eventually finishing it on every difficulty and getting the Test of Faith achievement. The gameplay can be frustrating, but this game is amazing overall, from the play to the story, the visuals and the music. Mirror's Edge is one of those games I want to recommend to everyone.

Mirror's Edge plays like a cross between a first person Assassin's Creed, and Portal, though not as good. The visual style of this game is probably the most appealing aspect. It's striking use of colour, interesting art design and cartoon-styled cutscenes all give the game a unique, fresh and interesting look.
The story however is far too cliche'd and boring to do the stunning world justice. The gameplay itself is limited to running and jumping, climbing and sliding, with the occasional bout of fisticuffs and awkward shooting. The game does a good job of putting you in the shows of the heroine and the parkour on the whole works; however many times I would fall to my death after falling through objects I should have latched on to. This is the games biggest downfall, is how frustratingly annoying it can become at times. Like the first Assassin's Creed, when parkour moves don't work like they're meant to, or break all together, it can lead to some frustrating and annoying deaths. 1st Person shooters have often been criticised when they include platform jumping segments, as the 1st person POV doesn't lend itself well to that style of gameplay; and it's all you'll be doing here.
The game is rather short but in my opinion it was just long enough. The game did a good job of not becoming repetitive and if it had dragged out much longer, fatigue would have set in. For people wanting more, there are plenty of time trials and speed runs to keep you amused.

A wonderful world to look at it and be in, but due to occasionally broken mechanics and some tedious, frustrating segments, it's not one I'll be revisiting any time soon.

Oozes style and free running is just really cool anyway, this is a brilliant, though fairly short, game.
