the writting is genuinely bad ??? it feels written by someone that never actually read fiction or played a game with a storyline. i hate being negative but oof

Shitty physical edition. The game IS on the disc, but it blocks you from doing any progress unless you update the game.
Not buying.

The hype is real and I don't have the time.
Hot take: bad title.

I was really hyped about this game in 2024 and early 2025, even bought a new desktop PC last year in large part to make sure I'd have a good machine for specifically this game...but it kept getting delayed, and while they released a lot of combat footage they weren't showing us anything else. They're promising an open world where Breath of the Wild's fully interactive physics-driven environment and emergent gameplay meets Witcher 3's branching narrative shaped by player decisions, which would be the holy Grail of gaming - but the more time passed without seeing anything outside combat, the more my enthusiasm was overtaken by skepticism.
Well, consider my enthusiasm renewed with this video they released last week, finally showing off the open world:
Movement looks liberating - climb anywhere, use force palm to launch yourself vertically and horizontally through the air, use your cape to glide down and out from high locations, ride horses, drive wagons, even ride a dragon or a steampunk-looking mech!
My only slightly negative reaction is to the map, which looks a bit undercooked - just a white background with no topography or colors reflecting the terrain type is kinda blah. But I do like that the only POIs that seem to be marked on it are towns/encampments - it's not covered in quest markers that spoil where all the hidden stuff is.
Two more videos are forthcoming, covering "life in Pywel" and "progression." Not sure what the timing is for those to be released. Game releases March 19.
