agersant's review of Astebreed
  • Shmup that switches between horizontal/vertical/inwards perspective
  • Mechanics are a bit of a mess but special attacks provide good spectacle
  • Visuals are hard to parse, probably would be unfun in hard difficulty or playing for score (I played on easy, would recommend normal)
  • Silly but catchy eurobeat music near the end of the game
  • Nonsensical anime story that never stops blabbering adds a somewhat endearing background noise

NotRegret's review of Astebreed

Fast paced shooter that switches between vertical shmup, horizental shmup, and a flight sim (think star fox or after burner). Huge aresenal off different attacks including lock ons, melee, and multiple types of lasers. It also looks amazingly cool in action.

The problem is that you're given a massive amount of hitpoints, which does offset that some of the enemy shots are way too chaotic but also means that you'll end up winning half the screens by just mashing buttons and eating half the hits.
