When these came out, glitches and all, they were revolutionary. To not fix a thing in 20 years, not one QOL upgrade, is pathetic,
I really don't understand all that hate this set receives. It's just a re-release of the same games we all loved growing up, just with slightly enhanced graphics with minimal added content.
I personally am grateful that this set was released, especially physically. After years of absence, these games have never looked better and offer trophies/achievements to aquire. That's enough for me. Take my money!

The games in this collection are a joy to revisit and guarantee hours of nostalgia but that's a testament to the original games rather than the remastered versions.
The main changes are the graphics, where the environment is significantly better but still stays true to its design, as it should be for a version released ten years after the original games. But the characters, for some reason, have not improved, rather their facial features and mouthing have degraded.
The AI is as dumb as the original games, with some AI-based NPC issues hindering players from progressing from specific missions.
Played GTA 3. Started with playing it on iPad but it was incredible hard to control. Gave in and bought Definitive edition. Many bad reviews but I really enjoyed playing it. Good controls. Improved graphics but still the retro feeling.
I really love the original trilogy, but the remastered models look really bad. Characters in 3 and Vice City don't open their mouths when talking - original games were old, but it's Unreal Engine for Darwin's sake! Also - some textures have a leveling problem - and your protagonist can literally sink into the ground. CJ's buff body is horrible - I always use clothes because of that - also bugs (game crashes, missions fail due to some weird shit) and optimization - when you alt+tab, it literally stutters up to 20-30 FPS before becoming normal again - I just can't understand how can you release an unfinished product of such quality - at least patch PC versions often - but they don't care. What a waste of money.
I guess I don't get the hate?
The games are playable. Most of the music is still here. Now you can play GTA on a Nintendo console, at home or on the go.
What were people expecting? Full fledged remasters? I never got that vibe from any of the marketing materials I saw for the game.
I guess I went in expecting the PS2/PS3 games on new gen consoles, and that's what I got, so overall I was satisfied.
It's not the best nor worst game ever. I'm content.
So it turns out that the version of GTA 3 included in the GTA: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition is a remaster of the mobile port, and not a remaster of the original game. So all the problems baked into the mobile port are impacting the final product now.
I look forward to Digital Foundry's analysis of the other two games in the package.
The question remains, did Rockstar retain all the music licenses? It's disconcerting that they have made no mention of this, given it's a significant element that contributes to the experience of the games. Their silence on this front could mean nothing, it could mean they are still negotiating or it could mean we are in for a bit of disappointment.
Good thing I still own this:
