A game developed by a small team with great passion. However, it lacks polish and hasn’t reached its full potential due to budget constraints. In its current state, the game doesn’t come close to the standards of games released in 2025. It looks like a game from the early 2010s, and it bears a striking resemblance to ArcaniA—the 2010 installment of the Gothic series that served as inspiration for Of Ash and Steel. I’ve played for about two hours, but I’m not sure if I’ll stick with it to the end because there’s a serious loading screen issue despite having an M.2 SSD, and the optimization seems problematic as well. I understand that the developers’ goal was to create a old-school role-playing game, but by simply gathering all the existing clichés of the genre and adding nothing new, they’ve ended up with something outdated.
Tried this one and yes, very much reminds me of Gothic/Risen and early versions of Kingdom Come: Deliverance but less real medieval. It has the humor, the slow pace. I definitely think they stole some assets and sound bits - not really but you can see and hear the homage(s).
I stopped playing early, because this is a game I do not want to spoil for me at all. I want to play this when it is out.
This clearly has jank, but I don't care when it scratches that specific Gothic itch and from what I have seen it definitely seems it does. Graphics are not AAA but decent and charming. You play a cartographer with not much fighting experience so the classic vibe of "everyone and everything can kill you" is there. There is loot everywhere as it should be. Fighting is something to get used to, stamina is important and it is more of a slow exchange of heavy hits. Definitely not on the easy side for me to do, but I want to learn it. Someone compared the fighting to the first Souls game, but I can't make that comparison since I never played one of …

It is a good choice from the developer to get this out before Gothic 1 Remake is supposed to launch. People want something like this desperately and I hope it can hold up to the end.
Crossing fingers for this one, but expect bugs and lots of patches over time.
