*Warning: Spoilers* Great and underrated game from my childhood.

I really loved Robin Hood: The Legend of Sherwood. It is an RPG-like game in which you complete missions with Robin Hood and his team.

In the beginning, Robin is the only character that you can play, but along the way you rescue your pals which then join your camp and are selectable for each mission.

The story revolves around Robin coming home from a nice weekend with the boys on his Crusade, only to find out that his real estate has been robbed and taken over by the Sheriff of Nottingham.

After a few missions, in which you wreak havoc amongst the Sheriffs soldiers, you find out that King Richard has been abducted by King Leopold V of Austria. Your main goal is to raise 100 000 pounds to rescue him.

The mechanics in Robin Hood: The Legend of Sherwood are unique for the time. You play on a fixed map each mission and this map can be fully explored. You search for pouches of money, can kill, knock out or bribe soldiers, collect loot of bodies, gather information from the townsfolk or simply sneak your way around enemies.

The combat is also unique. You get locked into a …

You search for pouches of money, can kill, knock out or bribe soldiers, collect loot of bodies, gather information from the townsfolk or simply sneak your way around enemies.

The combat is also unique. You get locked into a fight with an enemy and use the mouse to "draw" your attack in the air. When swiping from left to right, Robin or another character will attack with a swing from left to right. When drawing a line towards the enemy, the character will poke his weapon forward. It is just so much fun.

All characters have different abilities and items. Some have a stick that always knocks out enemies, Robin himself has a bow with limited arrows to kill enemies.

The graphics are gorgeous for the time. It is all 2D, but the environments are all nice and detailed and really give the medieval England vibe. The animations are beautiful and a permanent picture of how this game looks is printed in my tiny brain, along with all the other useless stuff that I know but don't need.

The music is really calm and relaxing. It plays chill, medieval tunes that really enhances the experience when you drive your sword trough an enemy.

The controls and interface are easy to understand and very accessible.

The way you can choose your own playstyle and the freedom in which you can complete a scenario is what makes this game so much fun. I really enjoyed it as a kid and still do. This is one of those games that will always hold a place in my black heart.

Definitely recommend this gem.
