Pretty bad…

Perfect Pencil is a game that looks great but pretty much fails at its core gameplay. It is a Metroidvania with a really creative art style - borrowing heavy from surrealism and a kind of Adventure Time look - but man, it was a slog to play. I got about 2/3 of the way and just realized I was forcing myself to continue, so I called it there.
The issues: way too much wordy (and random for the sake of random) dialogue, linear level design, stiff controls, repetitive combat, bland “platforming”, way too slow of an ability progression, and a lack of biome mechanic diversity.
So yeah, it’s just too much to even dive into each detail and frankly it would be just as much a slog to write about the defects as it was playing them. Suffice to say this would’ve made a much better comic book or animation than it did a Metroidvania.
