Unfortunately the game really loses steam at around the halfway point. By now all the novelty starts wearing out and you start to see the issues. Bulletspongy bosses, incredibly dumb AI, difficulty that racks up by just ding more and more enemies, dull level design. Weapons start to become boring since latter-game weapons are mostly useless so it gets repetitive, and weapon upgrades are either useless or don't change gameplay much.
I called it quits when the game barraged me with half a dozen invisible enemies. They are terrible and not fun to go against, since the main technique is to run backwards and shoot them in the brief moment they become visible when they attack.
