The controls/combat wasn't as responsive as I've come to expect from games like this, but overall it was still a good time.
There's a story but it doesn't really matter - more of a framing device for the action. And the action is nice. The whole fire mechanic is rather clever - you need to both manage the enemies (hitting …
The controls/combat wasn't as responsive as I've come to expect from games like this, but overall it was still a good time.
There's a story but it doesn't really matter - more of a framing device for the action. And the action is nice. The whole fire mechanic is rather clever - you need to both manage the enemies (hitting and dodging) and make sure your sword is always on fire (and if not, look for the nearest torch).
The platforming is simple but effective. Jumping is good, and the chase/timed platforming sequences were exhilarating.

I'll preface this review by saying the game is very short - I beat it in 2h 25m.
That said, it's a pretty good metroidvania. The combat and platforming are satisfying, the puzzle-like gameplay of some zones is interesting. But above all, this game is beautiful.

You can tell there's a lot of love behind the visuals of Nocturnal - the way The Mist moves and reacts to your character and the environment give this game an alluring feeling that gets even better when you slice your way through it with your fiery sword.
