Finished this, and ultimately I think the game gets in its own way by keeping play centered around a constant stream of inventory puzzles. The puzzles are totally serviceable, but because so much of the runtime is devoted to unlocking doors, the story progresses glacially and the characters/setting never meaningfully develop.

I guess The Walking Dead and Life is Strange made clear for me that it's the exploration and social aspects of the adventure game that I find interesting, and not the puzzle aspect.
