What a Shame

i want to play it because I'm just so curious what was attempted here, its got some interesting ideas but its like, i don't know how to put it in words, how bad it is

none of the weapons make sense. 'gas hands' really? or the shotgun that just doesn't stop shooting. you have this weird stat menu level up …

i want to play it because I'm just so curious what was attempted here, its got some interesting ideas but its like, i don't know how to put it in words, how bad it is

none of the weapons make sense. 'gas hands' really? or the shotgun that just doesn't stop shooting. you have this weird stat menu level up system that just is in the way everything is dark, everything hurts. everything explodes around you, you have companions that are called 'sidekicks' (okay cool) but they will travel through the map and get killed and have to be present to change the map when you get to the end of the level... so i think i will just quit because I've been quick saving and my sidekick is simply gone :D Nope, still in it. Got through these map cycles...

also, tons of switches. lots of blobs and computers, panels, etc. grates to shoot. wires to shoot. exploding corners. all sorts of tricky little shitty puzzles in the maps lol

This is basically the antichrist of Half-Life... where Half-Life did everything that is a gold standard in an FPS, this game did everything you should basically not do in an FPS, like jumping puzzles. and god damn it John Romero do my companions actually have to do the jumping puzzles too? Well, that's the last straw i'm quitting, i'm done being your bitch! Escape. Enter. Yes.

Strange, the guy who made doom, you'd think it would be good, i even recognize some music from doom in the map i just got through... its just slowed down and made real creepy (the music is awesome and the setting is really cool)

its just a big mess of a game that did not age well, and i don't know what they were smoking when they cobbled this shit together.

The tone of this game is a fun cyberpunk gore filled nightmare neon-lit fever dream clashing against the likes of Unreal, Prey, Deus Ex and other legends. It's too bad the quality is lacking.

For the PC Version, please check out the 1.3 patch project, its not much fun without it. Romero himself gave them the Daikatana Source Code and since then we all can enjoy a much improved game that even runs now on Linux and Mac. I turned the NPC followers off had had a blast playing it.

Ah yes Daikatana... pretty well equally loathed across the board by critics and players alike. Why then do I think it's a 3 star game? Because it is. Ah yes Daikatana... pretty well equally loathed across the board by critics and players alike. Why then do I think it's a 3 star game? Because it is. If you just play the thing what you've got is an above average game with varied levels and settings and really fun weapons. I heard all kinds of nasty things said at the time about the graphics of this game which really confused me because Daikatana had some really pretty effects and artwork! I think that it was promised to be something it could have never lived up to and was simply too long in the making. Especially in a post Half-Life world. But nonetheless does NOT deserve all of the negative press.

Best Traits:
- Awesome weapons.
- Great graphics for the time.
- Fantastic changes in settings, futuristic then off to ancient greece, pretty cool indeed.
- Overhyped but charming.
