This classic 2D platformer with adventure elements is free on Epic Games for a couple more days. My go-to example for an excellent remake of old-school games!

I was impressed by this game after finding out it pretty much plays the same as the original 8-bit SMS version but with updated graphics and music. It definitely feels like an 8-bit game with certain limitations but otherwise controls quite well. The transformation into different animal forms with different abilities that allow you to travel or access different areas was surprisingly well done. Later on when you are able to switch forms at certain locations or using a certain weapon there is a bit of choice and openness to the world. There are some cleverly hidden secrets to find too. The new graphics and music are very good and add a lot of personality and charm to the game making it more inviting to explore. Perhaps some things could've been updated gameplay-wise but the original game is surprisingly playable even today.

It makes me wonder what other gems there are on the Sega Master System that aren't well known in NA because of the dominance of the NES.

This game is actually fantastic, I feel bad that I resisted playing it for so long because I had an impression that the graphics didn't look polished from screenshots - they are actually irresistibly beautiful when you're playing the game, I am constantly in awe at the backgrounds.

This game was so much fun to play through -- enough so, that I'm now wanting to check out more Wonder/Monster Boy games. This one's a blast from the past, but with several fresh coats of paint (really, a complete refurbishing). This game was so much fun to play through -- enough so, that I'm now wanting to check out more Wonder/Monster Boy games. This one's a blast from the past, but with several fresh coats of paint (really, a complete refurbishing). This remake of Wonder Boy III (a 1989 title for the Master System) is not only a fun platformer made much more approachable for new/modern audiences, but also is a testament to its excellent Metroidvania-style level design so ahead of its time, it almost feels like it could've been made from the ground up today. You gradually unlock different animal forms for your character to turn into, each with its own abilities and attack movements. It's a great game to explore in, and it feels very rewarding when you uncover some new secret passage.

Wonderful art style, animation, music, and presentation. I think the presentation of the game itself deserves extra special notice, actually. The way you can switch between retro and modern graphics and sound instantly, any time you want, is just brilliant. And even the way you unlock and can view all the character design artworks and video clips of the instrumental recordings is delightful. Really, give that a section a look if you haven't yet.

This game makes me so happy. The new, bouncy artstyle and the music are just phenomenal! I really love how ((at least on ps4)) you can switch between new style and old style on the fly.

It's so cute, and doesn't take long to beat either!

Awesome graphics, but Gameplay wasn't too much fun for me. I like many old games, but compared to others it doesn't hold up any more for me.

I am very impressed that this game has just one Artist and basically one dev.

Finished the game, now just need to find a few hidden doors and get these last few trophies.
