Bury me, my Love tells the story of Syrian refugee Nour and her husband Majd, as Nour undertakes a perilous journey to safety in Europe. Bury me, my Love is a Text Messaging Adventure game about Nour, a Syrian migrant trying to find her way to Europe. Her husband Majd, who remains behind in Syria, communicates with Nour through a messaging app, advising her as best he can so that she reaches her destination safely. “Bury me, my love” is a Syrian goodbye phrase that roughly means, “Take care, don’t even think about dying before I do.” This phrase takes on a deeper meaning as Majd says it to his wife, Nour, as she undertakes her perilous journey to reach Europe. A co-production from ARTE, the European cultural network, with The Pixel Hunt and Figs. Read less

Moving Story

This visual novel is really sweet and moving, the relationship feels real and a lot of the tension really gets to you. Definitely recommend.

Profound, thought-provoking and touching game. It tackles a politic problem in a deep way that makes you feel for the characters.

Bury Me, My Love is a historical romantic horror game. You attempt to guide your wife via text to seek asylum in Europe. There is an overwhelming sense of dread throughout the game. Will I lose her? Will Jihadis or Isis kill her? Will corrupt police officers rob and beat her? The game's title seems to suggest the impossible nature of the task you are assigned.

I think the story is excellent, and it certainly taught me much more about what is going on in the Middle East than I previously knew. But I kinda think it is a failure as a game.

The gameplay is bare bones. Occasionally you will get the opportunity to influence Nour's decisions. But sometimes she doesn't listen to you. So the very little control you have is diminished further. And when I say bare bones, I mean it. Every now and again Nour sends you a picture. Outside of that, it is just text. No music during the normal game. And despite its stripped down nature, this is the only game I've ever had crash on my Switch. It crashed three times in a row at the same part, making me realize the path I wanted Nour to take was cut off because of a glitch.

I feel bad saying this game is bad. I found it very moving! Just don't go in expecting a game. It is reading heartbreaking texts with minimal interactivity. But that is enough to remind you of the horrifying realities of a war torn region. Refugees need our help. If you don't already know that, this story will cement that truth in you.

This is a really good twist on the Lifeline model. It's well written, it tackles important themes and it's a way of feeling yourself immersed in something so far away. Well, as much as you can feel that by playing with your phone while you're taking a dump.
