Fight'N Rage PS5

I’m not going to write out a long review for this one but I have to stop and say, holy crap this is a good beat ‘em up. Seriously Fight’N Rage is fantastic.

Fight’N Rage nails the old school look it is going for while still having a bit of its own style. It’s smooth, polished and has a bunch of visual options like scanlines, CRT TV mode and different colour styles. It has great art, animations, and good enemy and environment variety. The soundtrack is really fun and goes well with the visuals and gameplay. The gameplay just hits the sweet spot. It is challenging but never feels unfair or cheap. It is easy to pick up and start playing but difficult to master. I think this game made me a better beat ‘em up player and it has sparked a greater interest in this genre. It’s just fun and so replayable and there is so much content here. There’s plenty to unlock, different modes and multiple endings.

I think the main drawback for me is that it’s slightly too long. I wish a run through was a shorter blast but honestly that’s probably mostly a skill issue on …

I think the main drawback for me is that it’s slightly too long. I wish a run through was a shorter blast but honestly that’s probably mostly a skill issue on my end. Yeah, that’s possibly the biggest problem with the game, I kind of suck at it. But I’m getting there and it’s been rewarding to improve. Some other minor issues are that the bosses could have been a bit better, there’s some unnecessary repetition and occasionally there’s too much going on which obscures the action a bit. You could find fault with the story too I guess but that’s not why you play this.

Fight’N Rage was made by one guy, with another person doing music and I think a handful of testers and it’s really impressive. I haven’t ventured too far into beat ‘em ups but this has to be one of the best. If you like fun and a challenge go buy this, easy recommendation.

8.8/10

If I don't review this, who will?
This review is for the Nintendo Switch version

Perhaps one of the most underlooked modern beat em ups, I think I might've found my absolute favorite one. Visually it's nothing too special, I've already seen this artstyle done elsewhere, but that doesn't mean it isn't gorgeous to look at, and the fact that one person made all of it is even more impressive honestly.

I adore the music too, the forest music, the boss themes, and the final boss theme (vengeance for those who wanna look it up) are absolute bangers, they sound just modern enough to remind you that you're not playing a ps1 game (not a jab, since the ps1 has incredible pixel art games)

The gameplay is easily one of the tightest I've ever played in a beat em up. Right from the start of the game, you're given every single move, and boom, you're off. This means that you don't need a level up system, instead, your experience and combo knowledge is what will help. You learn to counter every type of enemy and suddenly you can beat the game on hard mode without continues, proving that the game is 100% fair (yes even the raft level, the best way to manage that one …

Oh yeah that's right the characters, I tried all 3 of them, and while I enjoyed F. Norris quite a lot, it was Gal who I ended up using for all of my 10 playthroughs. She's obviously pushed as the main protagonist so it makes sense that she's also the most fun to control and perfect.

I highly highly recommend this game, for any fan of beat em ups, with the only reason for a 4 instead of a 5 being that the difficulty is unbelievably brutal at some points, and that can turn off some people (it took me 20 hours of trial and error to even reach and beat the final boss)

Otherwise, massive props to Sebastian Garcia, this is an absolute masterpiece of a beat em up and due to how relatively unknown it is, I can definitely call it a hidden gem

This game is unbelievably underrated, I've never heard anyone mention it ever, except Super Eyepatch Wolf in his favorite 2017 things, which is where I got introduced to it. I desperately wanted another pure beat em up, like streets of rage in particular (I got a little tired of the rpg ones like scott pilgrim, dragon's crown and especially river city girls) Excellent game but absurdly difficult, which might be a deal breaker for some (but for me, it's the point of the deal)
