Beasts of Maravilla Island is a short, relaxing game about photographing the colorful and fantastic creatures your grandfather described in his journals. It packs an impressive amount of variety into just a few hours, and I found it fun to play.
I do think there's room for improvement. I couldn't tell if the game is an intentional throwback to sixth generation console games (Dreamcast, PS2, GameCube, Xbox) or not. I have an affection for that era, but the vibrant setting and emphasis on exploration feels somewhat at odds with the game's low-resolution textures, clipping polygons, and finicky movement. I get a sense that the game wants to be more overtly stylized or more polished.
