You are a diver in an underwater maze. Throughout the maze are valuable diamonds, and your goal is to retrieve as many as you can. In the middle of the screen is a shark cage where you begin. As you collect diamonds you need to bring them back to the shark cage in order to earn points. Swimming back and forth constantly is a deadly shark. If the shark encounters any of the diamonds, it will eat them; likewise you can also be eaten by the shark, causing you to lose a life. You have no defense against the shark, however you are immune if you are in the shark cage and the doors are closed. Somewhere in the maze the Loch Ness monster remains hidden. If you disturb the monster, it will continuously chase you unless you can lead it back into one of the caves located in the corners of the screen. This game's name was changed from Lochjaw to Shark Attack because, being the game was about an attacking shark, there was a lawsuit that the game's name was too close to the movie title Jaws. A Breath Of Fresh Air After Many Disappointments In '82 Games!

Look: 8/10 As mediocre as these are, they're above-average for a lot of Atari games from this era, and it's nice when you can actually discern most the sprites. Plus, I love some of the Atari colors, especially that backgrounnnnnnd enter image description here

Play: 8/10 Yay, an '82 Atari game with tight controls. I do wish there were diagonal movement (the manual claims there is... hmmm). Other than that, it's really nice to see an Atari game with decent collision masks (that's been an issue even in Atari games whose gameplay I liked, etc.). Definitely helps to have the manual (tho it seemed obvious: collect the minnow looking things, as many as you can as compared to the shark looking thing, and return to the center). Gotta love games with difficulty levels. (Oh lolll, I thought they were minnows, but per the manual I guess there are diamonds?). I wound up replaying this a few times, once I had read the manual especially, and felt pretty strong at it till those fast-moving enemy thingies starting spawning! Fun to have that usual maze chase feel at that point.

Feel: 8/10 Cool name, cool concept, I like a return to the traditional maze game feel but with a new setting and some unique features. Whoa, that got a lot harder after a bit! Still, well-balanced and good progression of difficulty, and surprised myself with how much fun I had. I even had my coworker playtest it, and she usually isn't much into games!

Attachment: 8/10 Welp, this is probly overrating it a bit just to get it to 4 star ha--but after several disappointments in '82, this was a nice breath of "fresh air." The background and colors is a huge part of that, but honestly the gameplay was nice to feel like it went "back to basics": simple, goofy, arcade-style action fun. So, I gave this an 8, since when I want to show my brothers or friends Atari action games, which I could see happening for sure, this would be on the list.
