Steel Talons brought realism-oriented helicopter combat to the arcades, and later to home systems. The action is viewed from behind your helicopter, with the 3D polygon world rotating around you, taking in mountains, rivers and deserts. There are 12 missions in total, each of which requires you to destroy targets in a set time limit. There are also training and head-to-head (against a CPU-controlled drone) modes. You have a limited number of automatically-targeting missiles as well as a cannon. Beat all missions using 1st person view, manual speed control option and real option (whatever that does). I found the game rather easy and found a good strategy was to slow down before approaching enemies so you can kill them with the machine gun before getting into their firing range. I only failed 1 combat mission due to the time limit, which was 1 that wanted you to kill jets first but put them at opposite ends of the map. I also failed the race missions and did not like them at all. Why the hell are there race courses that must be completed to unlock later combat missions? I even beat the expert level even though it was fairly boring.

A decently fun game with good controls. The level design and story are what holds the game back from the far superior Strike series.
